The problem with droughts and water shortage.

A drought is defined as the reduction or absence of rain in regard to the anual index, and contrary to what is regularly assumed, it is a normal and recurring event which presents itself cyclically in every climate zone worldwide, although with greater intensity and recurrence in arid and semiarid zones.

Drought is classyfied in mainly three types: meteorological, agricultural, and hydrological.

All types of droughts have a common origin, the lack of rain therefore “when only rain is taken into account”, we are talking about meteorological drought.

Agricultural drought happens after a meteorological drought and it occurs “when there is not sufficient humidity in the ground for the desired crop at a particular moment in time”

Agricultural drought mainly affects agriculture, because the ground due to lack of rain, high temperaturas and evaporation, completely loses its normal moisture impeding the successful development of any crop.

Lastly there is a hydrological drought when due to lack of rain during one or more seasons the rivers, lakes, and other surface and subterranean reservoirs commence to diminish gradually, even to the point of complete depletion.

The present definitions show the reaches and manifestations of the main types of droughts which when contextualized with other data and other problems of our reallity allows us to understand why historically when there is drought , grave affectations are suffered by human activities and their assets.

What is and which are the benefits of solid rain?

Captura de pantalla 2021-07-20 a la(s) 12.56_edited.png

Solid rain is the invention of (mexican) engineer Sergio Rico which reduces the need of irrigation up to 90%.

A good part of the water we consume is destined to crop and plant irrigation (70% approx.). The problem is that a good portion of that water does not accomplish its function because it seeps through the ground. The same thing happens to rain water, but a group of Mexican researchers has found a solution. It is called Solid Rain, a kind of powder which saves up to 90% of irrigation water.

Solid rain is a potassium based polymer which has the hability to store up to 500 times its size. It is a non soluble, non toxic, biodegradable compound which does not alter the plants natural pH. It is even edible.

Solid rain as it is commercially named, maintains plants and crops permanently hidratados thus reducing the need for watering up to 90%.

Solid rain is sold in powdered form, when is is about to be applied, it is mixed with water so that it can be stored by the polymer which swells.

The compound is then mixed with soil in the case of a plant or  in a flowerpot, ori t is spread on top of the earth when it comes to tres. As we previously mentioned it is non toxic and biodegradable, so it poses no problema to the environment.

Roots then can absorb wáter from the solid rain when they need it, and as it retains up to 500 times its volumen, it supplies a great ammount of wáter which is not lost to the underground (subsoil) hence there is only need to wáter with only 10% of what it was used before.

Solid rain lasts for 6 to 8 years, so it is a midterm investment for farmers by reducing wáter consumption automatically wáter and electricity bills are reduced.

This producto is particularly beneficial in countries and regions where there are sesons of great rainfalls with months of drought. The compound stores wáter during the rainy season and releases it during the dry season when plants and crops need it most.

U.S. Drought Monitor

The U.S. Drought Monitor is a map released every Thursday, showing parts of the U.S. that are in drought. The map uses five classifications: abnormally dry (D0), showing areas that may be going into or are coming out of drought, and four levels of drought: moderate (D1), severe (D2), extreme (D3) and exceptional (D4).
